Tottenham to sign £14m Palacios

The 24-year-old defensive midfielder has been in sensational form for Wigan this season, and his capture is a major coup for Spurs boss Harry Redknapp.

The signing will come as a relief to Tottenham, who feared that Manchester City could make a last-minute bid for Palacios, having already outbid them to sign Craig Bellamy from West Ham.

Although the Honduran went through the formalities of gain a work permit when he signed for Wigan, employment laws dictate that he must obtain a new one every time he signs a contract.

A statement on Spurs' official club website confirmed: "We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement for the transfer of Wilson Palacios from Wigan Athletic.

"Personal terms have been agreed and a medical completed, we now await the Honduran international receiving his work permit before completing his registration."
